About the Author
Though Jason Frye calls the coast of North Carolina home, his heart is with the mountains. Born and raised in the rugged Appalachian foothills in southern West Virginia, he developed an affinity for hiking and exploring the woods, coves, and hollows of the hills. His family vacationed in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. His love for this landscape deepens with each visit. Jason and his wife Lauren spend as much time as possible exploring the outdoors: wandering the woods and wilds, kayaking the marshes and waterways, and even hang gliding.Jason is the author of several Moon guidebooks, including Moon North Carolina and Moon Blue Ridge Parkway Road Trip. I ordered this for vacation planning this year and it's been very helpful. Broken into sensible sections and is very comprehensive. Glad I found this resource. Also like the size. It will be easy to take with us. I like the fact that it's written by someone that is obviously very familiar with the area.
I had been a regular buyer of the Lonely Planet travel books. But more and more often, i am finding these Moon series travel books to have a very helpful balance of detail and organization. For each of our past three destination vacation trips we ended up buying and using Moon series books for each of the national parks, and they were very helpful.
This book contains very helpful information. We are making our trip in a couple of days, so I cannot verify all the content as yet, but the book reads very well, and has helped us prioritize how to make the best use of our time. The color photos and numerous maps have allowed me to orient myself ahead of time, and the book is divided nicely into very helpful categories. I would highly recommend this book if you have never been to the Smokey Mountains and are planning a trip.
These Moon books have served us well for trips to the National Parks! They have tons of concise information with lots of photos and tips. Wouldn’t go without one.
