First of all let me say that I've read and re read this series a few times. I can't believe that I forgot to review this last year but better late than never I guess. I've been in love with the Walsh family for a long time. I honestly read this one because it was on KU and looked interesting. I was so bored with the typical books in this genre. I would be reading a book & thinking that I'm wasting my time. Then I tried Underneath it All and fell in love. I read Patrick's book (#2) & I decided to buy the series so I could keep those lovely, complicated people for myself. Matt& Lauren are a good couple. She is his sweet to his grumpy. Soft to his stoic & hard side. She's just a nice person. The Walsh's are just a complicated bunch. Each book reveals a bit more about each other. What I really love is that KC writes a strong, competent, accomplished & independent woman really well. There will be no damsel in distress in her stories, period. She shows vulnerabilities in both men & women better other author I've read before. I'm looking forward to all her future books! Get everything she's ever written. You won't be let down if you do.S. Sowell 😅

If Matthew was not the leading male in this book it would have been tossed into the DNF pile. I found myself skimming pages simply to find out what happened at the end of the story.Matthew (architect) - loved him! He was kind, caring, ready to help Lauren at anytime, as well as smart and sexy! Was there for Lauren and his family without once giving a thought about himself or the cost of that decision. Lauren does not deserve a man like Matthew.Lauren (school teacher) – cannot stand her! She whined and complained and ran the entire story! It was all about her and her plan and how she needed to stay on track and not get caught up in the scenery. She definitely has a serious case of the Me’s!Loved Matthew and the Walsh siblings and totally understood their relationships with each other. Wasn’t quite sure about the reasons “why” they let Angus (father) talk to them they way he did. I thought maybe one of them would have stepped up to take the bull by the horns. In the end Angus got what he so rightfully deserved. I am also left wondering what the issue is/was with Shannon and Erin (the sisters) as that was never brought up. Maybe this is something that will appear in the rest of the series. The three things I liked best about this book; being told in dual POV, the hot sex scenes and Matthew. At this time I am not going to read anymore books in this series, but maybe one day I will.

That's about the kindest thing I can say about Lauren. I cannot stand whiny adolescents masquerading as adults in books. Especially ones who are strong, self-reliant and amazing in "their other life" but are d*cknotized when a man comes along. "If he touches me I'll cave." Ugh! Either pull up your big girl panties and end it or see where it goes. And Matt. Ugh! To be a doormat over and over and over and over and over and over .... and then FINALLY wonder if she's worth it? SHE'S NOT!If you're wondering why I read this book it's honestly because I'm a weirdo that HAS TO read books in order and I want Rileys'! He was the best part of this book! Well, that and the smex. Whoo! Just ... whooo!

Wow. I don't give a lot of five star reviews, but this is the second of Kate's books that I have given 5 stars. I started with Coastal Elite, which was recommended on Scribd after I read authors like Penny Reid and Vi Keeland and Devney Perry. Then I read this book using my Scribd subscription, not remembering that I'd somehow gotten this book for free back in February. (And I discovered this when I went on Amazon to BUY THE ENTIRE WALSH SERIES!)I loved Matthew, and I didn't always like Lauren because I saw myself in her. Military father, rule-follower (and sometimes rebel) who liked a schedule and a routine and didn't like it when things did NOT go according to plan. We should all be lucky enough to have a man like Matthew want us as desperately as he wanted Lauren (although he did get a bit stalker-y sometimes...) I loved how alpha he was, but how she gave it right back to him. I loved getting to know Matthew's siblings a bit, and I'm so glad they each get their own books!P.S. I was so happy to find out that this Shannon was the same one I'd just read about in Coastal Elite. :)

Matthew Walsh and Lauren Halsted are way too busy with their careers to have time for anything else. Although Matthew wants to make time for more, like a relationship, Lauren is still very focused on her career responsibilities. These two had sizzling chemistry given that they were not what the other person was looking for at the time. Matthew had a different type and Lauren was waiting for a different time. Matt is always the guy who mediates and tries to be the neutral third party given the craziness of his family life. He's solid, dependable and ambitious. Lauren is also ambitious, along with independent and moving at 90 miles per hour. She keeps her emotions locked tight, but isn't afraid to get lost in some physical escape. I adored how much Matt tried to anchor her down and keep her close despite Lauren's attempts to maintain distance. I thought Lauren had a good reason for this so it was a little anticlimactic to realize that she didn't have some deep seated fear or buried past that kept her from pursuing more, it was simply the chaos of her life, which made it all the more frustrating. I could understand her drive to succeed, but kind of wanted to shake her, too. I was also intrigued by Matt's siblings and look forward to reading more about each of them because there's still so much to learn about the family dynamics.
