For most of us, selling a financial practice is a one time event and the Capstone to a career.. It is an extremely complex process with many pitfalls for the unwary. From evaluation to structure to transition and very much more, this book is the first part of the "due diligence" you owe yourself. Without having a comprehensive understanding of all phases of the process you are at a very serious disadvantage. Mr. Grau writes from the perspective of one who has many years of experience structuring succession plans and sales of financial practices.It is a must read for every prospective seller or buyer.If you go into negotiation hoping for the best ... in the words of sports columnist Werner Wolf "You Lose!"Any suggestion that you don't need to read this book you might well consider a Red Flag.

Sometimes books are perfectly targeted for exactly the stage you are in your life or business. If you are even contemplating buying or selling an advisory practice, this book is just a Godsend.The state of our financial advisory industry is such that if you really want to become informed on the topic of how to buy or sell a practice/business, you really have two choices - Tibergien's/Dahl's book (which is also excellent, and still relevant after 10 years) and Grau's book. These are the bibles (and this one is absolutely current and reflective of exactly what's happening now in terms of valuations, deal structures, financing alternatives, etc. For example, 10 years ago, almost all deals were seller financed. Today, with the emergence of Live Oak Bank and similar cash-flow based lenders, the landscape has really changed and this book reflect that.)Beyond these two books, you really have to wander in the educational wilderness piecing together bits from here and there to become informed. There just aren't ANY other resources (I know of) which offer you an A-Z education in how to approach a deal wisely.This book does a great job of it. Of note is that it really starts with the premise that its job is to help you get the deal done. It's not about teaching you how to vanquish your opponent. In most cases, you'll end up in an economic marriage with your deal partner and this book recognizes that and helps you approach thinking about it all in a reasonable, collaborative way.The book offers a great amount of help with valuations, deal structure, financing, due diligence, tax issues, legal issues, and planning for a successful transition and client retention. I has helpful checklists and sample document templates.Grau and FP Transitions have helped thousands of advisors complete successful deals. They are leaders in the industry - this makes their perspective an especially valuable and relevant one.If you are considering buying, you simply have to come to the party up-to-speed. This book definitely gets you there.If you are selling, you'd do well to get this book years before you plan to sell because it offers valuable insights about how to best prepare your business for sale and capture the potential value available to you. But even if you are selling now, it helps shape strategy and expectations.For me, it's pretty simple - if you are planning to buy or sell and advisory practice, you will already be investing an enormous amount of time and expense into the process. It would be silly not to invest the few hours and dollar in reading this book - you can only emerge more informed, confident, reasonable, cautious, and frankly, relaxed - so many of those questions swirling in your head get answered.If you are deciding between this and Tibergien's book - don't. Get and read both. If you need the more relevant to getting your deal done today, this one wins on its currency.I saw another person wrote a short negative review calling this book terrible and to save your money. I thoroughly enjoyed this refreshing, client centric approach to Buying, Sellling and Valuing Financial Practices. David and FP Transitions have provided a clear, concise and relevant description of the process from both the buyers and sellers perspective in todays market. More importantly they have clearly laid out the case for increasing the quality and transparency of the M&A process in our field.

This book gave an excellent introduction to the finer points of the transaction process. I had no idea how complex such a basic component like purchase price could be. The book also provides a surprising amount of detail on due diligence and documentation. Very useful for an advisor considering using acquisition as a growth strategy

This book is very useful for beginner.

The authors spent many pages of warnings rather than really useful tips. More sell promotion than formulas. A few standard forms in back though can find most on the internet. They never gave a good formula for valuation rather promoted paying someone like them thousands of dollars. The bit about due diligence was reasonable though could also easily be found online. A site like SuccessionLink is better connector to find interested parties and they wanted an email address to send their promotions to though for free gave a very good valuation of my practice..

A great read for serious advisors in the financial industry. This book gives a detailed overview of the M&A space related to investment advisory. If you are reading other books continue to do so but simply add this one to the must read list. The Information that FP transitions provides is crucial to anyone in the buying and selling space of the financial industry. Great people at their organization along with this great book to read.

This book is so well-written, down-to-earth, and filled with a Country Boy's wisdom that I'll probably re-read it just to soak up more of it. Not many books mirror my own beliefs and way of living my faith, but this one does. I can relate, too. I have m.s. I try to be a follower of Christ. And, I grew up country. I even had the privilege of growing up with a father who sounds like Mr. Walker's dad. My father himself grew up on a Kansas farm, plowing fields behind a horse and eventually serving in the Army Air Corps in WWII. He didn't go to church much, but he had a way of loving and living that is what God's Word asks us to do. I learned a lot from him and from Jesus, and it sounds like Mr. Walker learned from his earthly father and our Heavenly one as well. I can relate to the book and agree with its author -- Jesus is a country boy. Mr. Walker has a no-nonsense, gentle approach to explaining where the Church is stepping outside the common sense and down-home love that God wants to come from His kids. He does so while also giving the reader some good stories to chew on as well as some autobiography.The last chapter and this quote from the book give you a good taste of the straight-forward, earthy sort of meat you'll be getting with this book. The author is talking about the song that matches the title of this book -- "Jesus Was a Country Boy." He says, "It was one of those songs that I felt great about writing because it expressed my strong opinion on how we all relate to God and how this is distinct from the way organized religion often depicts it. As I've shared throughout these pages, I don't think you have to get dressed up and go to church every week to know God on an intimate level. I'm convinced he reveals himself all around us -- in the dappled sunlight falling on a creek bank, in the taste of Mama's fried chicken, in the sound of a child's laughter -- if we're only willing to pay attention." [I don't know what page that is, for I have the Kindle version of the book; my apologies.]Thank you, Mr. Walker, for writing this book and for creating "Band Against MS," raising money for research and education. Keep running the good race, enjoying people and nature's beauty along the way!

I personally am going through a lot of stuff and this book helped me change my perspective on some things for the better. I was truly blessed to read this book.

As a Christian myself, this book made things that I've learned in church seem so much easier to understand. I've been to church where they want you to think deeply about faith and Jesus Christ when a simple approach is better.This book meets that. Things I loved about this book: The Sijos, Jason Reynolds' ability to add mundane details into his stories and normalize characters, the very present parents, the rich and detailed side characters.Things I'm struggling with: This story, is obviously, about Spiderman. Throughout the story there is a build up to the battle scene, with Miles' Spidey sense alerting him and the way too evil history teacher. It felt like all of this build up happened and then the battle scene was 10 pages long and then it was over.However, the more I think about this, the more I think that it's done this way on purpose. Being Spiderman is just one part of Miles. He is also a son, and a friend, and a student, and a teenage boy trying to navigate his crush. This story tells one small period of time in his life. Once he has defeated the villain, he still has real life demons to answer to and problems of racism and discrimination that cannot be as easily defeated as the larger-than-life villain.So while this was unsettling to me when I read it, it forced me ask myself a lot of questions and grapple with why the story was told this way and the answers make the grappling worth it.tl;dr Jason Reynolds is masterful in his story telling. This is exactly the story Donald Glover was talking about years ago. Spiderman is just a normal, smart black kid from Brooklyn.

I have been struggling to find books my daughter will read and this one was a hit! She loved all the excitement in this book and at the end she was feverishly flipping pages and asked for the next in series! She declared that she needed to read more like these.

Most importantly my son loves this book. When I helped him with his book report I came to appreciate the social conflict that played such an important role in Miles Morales' life. This is not a beat em up, bang em up, good guy wins sorta book. It rises well above all that and delivers a powerful message in humanity. What is that message? I'm not telling! That would just spoil everything!My son had a little difficulty grasping the real message of this book and therefore challenged his highest intellect. We had a lot of quality time working on his book report together.This is now a family favorite!

My daughter and I loved the movie so much that I had to get her the novel. We are reading it together and there is just so much more to it! Which is usually the case when you are talking the book over the movie. excellent purchase.

great read! Love Miles Morales as a character and it's nice to read about him more. There's not too much action which I wasn't a fan of but the story was nice for a quick read and a laugh or too. There are some plot points that don't go anywhere but I feel can be brought up in a sequel if needed. Overall, great book

In this field guide, a sequel to the volume on Papilionidae, Pieridae, and Nymphalidae, Philip DeVries provides the first detailed treatment of over 250 species of Costa Rican butterflies in the family Riodinidae. Drawing from his extensive fieldwork, museum research, and surveys of scientific literature, DeVries presents the means to identify riodinid butterflies to the species level and gives an overview of their natural history. This guide illustrates nearly all of the Costa Rican species in color and provides a large sample of detailed line drawings and scanning electron micrographs of riodinid early stages for the first time ever. This is a wonderful book on butterflies, well-researched, more photos than you can review in a day, and a joy to behold. DeVires has provided the amateur, the professional or the everyday reader with all the known information of every butterfly found in Costa Rica. ( Yes, many of them get to the U.S.) DeVires' attention to detail, his photos and his comments demonstrate discipline ordinary writers can only envy. Also be warned, this is "Volume II" of his massive opus to our winged-friends. You will have to find "Volume I" on the used book sites. DeVires is now teaching and researching at the University of New Orleans, but at the end of the day, this volume and the previous volume will stand as testimony to what a field researcher can do. Buy this book.

This book, together with the vol.1, is a surprisingly complete publication of butterflies and thier natural history written by a single author. I put two volumes and Corbet/Pendlebury's Butterflies of West Malaysia on a book shelf'near at hand and look at the pages quite often. Now I am too old to go to Costa Rica to look at the butterflies, but the pages of this book gives me clear images of imaginary travel in the jungles in Costa Rica. I hope the 3rd voleume of this book on Hairstreaks/Blues or Skippers will be published in near future.

This hefty book is not a book you would like to drag along in you daypack (I tried, so I know). Yet, you will need it around (so, in your lodge or tent) when you're walking the rainforests and trying to make out what you've seen. It gives a clear description, added to clear drawings, of all the butterflies in the described families. That leads me to the only drawback: it's "just" a number of famlies described here, so the title is somewhat misleading. I'm eagerly awaiting the follow-up with the rest of the Lepidoptera, hoping that they will be covered in a similar way.

For all of you who are looking for a good quality source book for your art projects this is the book that will provide you, not only, with detailed drawings but also with beautiful color images of Costa Rican butterflies. I only wish there were more color photographs of the insect, but since I researched line drawings to incorporate them into design this book even exceeded my needs. It also helped my seven year old daughter to understand and appreciate the complexity of this species not only its beauty. The text is easy to understand and can make a good vacation reading

After traveling different countries and using various field guides, I can say that this one needs a lot of improvement. This book only covers a small section of species. The specimens that are used are tattered and some are difficult to use for ID purposes. In most guides, the photo description on the left usually include the page number for the text, this one doesn't. So, you have to check the name and look to the index to cross over to the text page. Speaking of names, they are only called by the Latin scientific name. This is probably not a big issue since most do not have one.Now, the text is very thorough and there have been a great deal of time and patience to acquire the information and data. I still would recommend this book despite its flaws. So far, it is probably the only book describing Costa Rican Butterflies.

What a delightful book! The writing style is fun and engaging while the content is astounding in its breadth and depth. This is a book that doesn't make you feel stupid, but actually enlightened. It put a whole new light on just what biodiversity means from the largest animals to the microbiology that we require. You will delight in reading this book and will want to share it with your friends!

I’m an eco-dispairist. Surprisingly, I felt actual optimism reading this book. It’s scientifically well shored up but chatty and warm as well. Dunn acknowledged several chapters that had been deleted. I wish they hadn’t been. Perhaps a sequel? I summarized the toxoplasmosis review for the waitress at my small town diner. We decided we’ve both had it, and she told me the next morning she’d dreamed about it. Yeah, it’s that kind of book. I’m ready to check out the rest of what he’s written though I suspect what he published for tenure and promotion may not be as reader friendly. I read the kindle edition. No problems there.

I like it when researchers can bring their results to people in an understandable and interesting way. If you are squeamish about germs this probably isn't the book for you. But for those who like to know about what lives with them it's a good read. The information about black mold and drywall, the yeasts on a bakers hands, the community that lives in your shower head, are all fascinating as well as all the other topics. I now have something to show my husband when he complains about the spider webs in the corners of my office and all the animals and plants I haul inside. Biodiversity is good. Healthy people live in homes with lots of it.

Brilliant concept, great delivery. Some parts seemed redundant but this was an entertaining and educational read as a whole. Loved the part about Toxoplasma gondii.
